BBQ Bocce Bash a Success

Tennis Talk

On Sunday, June 8, the tennis club hosted their 16th annual BBQ Bocce Bash at Gazebo Park.  The weather fully cooperated with sunny skies and 73 degrees.  Kudos to Tina Parsley and her committee for such a well-attended and organized event.  Thanks to an amazing team of volunteers including Gene Mariani, Michael Castle, Jayme and Lynn Dickson, Sonia and Harry Soin, Asra Batool and Doug Koenig, Sherry Benz, Nancy Domingo and Don Clarke for taking charge and making sure every detail was executed flawlessly.

Start time was 3:00pm with organized teams playing bocce on courts 1 and 2 while the later scheduled bocce players socialized at picnic tables sipping provided drinks and munchies.  A special Thank You goes out to bocce club volunteers who helped with education and tips about the sport: Espie and Daniel Martinez, Jeff Rose, Tom Hunt and Todd Horvatich. Several people also enjoyed playing corn hole, axe toss and the ladder toss game.
Our semi-annual club meeting was held at 5:00pm with all board members being introduced and club president, Gene Mariani, announcing the events for the rest of the year.  Tina Parsley, treasurer, handed a $20,000.00 check to Gail Tuft, Scholarship Chairman, to take to Silver Creek high school to distribute to the 4 scholarship winners for this year.
Dinner was cooked on site in a portable truck kitchen and served by caterer, High Five Pizza Company, providing a delicious buffet of marinated grilled chicken, pulled pork, grilled asparagus & zucchini, chili corn casserole, fresh fruit, baby green salad and garlic bread, with cookies for dessert.
A couple families had multiple generations in attendance for the BBQ event. Everyone enjoyed the ‘younger’ energy!
