It was a beautiful weekend of tennis watching or participating in the Tennis Club’s mixed doubles tournament. The finals on Sunday were especially fun to watch because they were all so close it was hard to keep track of who was ahead!
Mixed A: 1st place Brett Foreman/Cheryl Diltz, 2nd place Paul Spisar/Peggy Seidel, 3rd place Harry Soin/Julie Hawkinson.
Mixed B: 1st place: Tim Keys/Joy Rem, 2nd place: Tracy Scott/Suzi Hathaway, 3rd place: Marty Funcell/Donna Gilmour. Marty/Donna vs Rick Tedeschi/Farida Fletcher takes the prize for the longest match lasting over 3 hours!
Mixed 80+: 1st place: Martin Hoek/Claire Hintergardt, 2nd place Gene and Shirley Mariana. I think Shirley had the largest cheering section with 2 brothers and families arriving to cheer.
The weekend ended with the awards dinner at Foothill with a tasty barbecue buffet followed by awards. Many people need to be thanked for their help with the dinner. First of all, Akiko for all of her technical help navigating registration and billing, Tina for all of the decorations and photos, Linda Dumont for dinner organization with me and the volunteers who served the food and everyone’s help with clean up.’
USTA Update: Betty Olsen’s 6.5W team is consistent with no wins … but they are still having fun being back in competition! Ken Kine’s 7.0M team is barely better with only 1 win … and they are having fun, too! Next home games: 10/27/22 (Thursday) at 10:45 AM for the women and 10/28/22 (Friday) at 10:45 AM for the men. Come down to the courts and cheer them on!
