TT 6/9/2023Meet new tennis club member Sharon Bartels who moved to village Hermosa October, 2022. Sharon states that she and husband Don Bartels are enjoying the active and friendly lifestyle here in the villages.
Sharon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but moved to California when she was 2. She graduated high school in Alameda, and then enrolled in a nursing program in San Francisco. Sharon has a 50-year career in nursing and is currently working 1 day a week as a nurse practitioner at Cañada Community College.Sharon met her husband Don at a fraternity party her first year at nursing school at age 18. Don was enrolled at Berkeley in engineering, but they waited until Sharon graduated before they got married. Sharon was then able to “put hubby through” graduate school while Don was in law school.They raised their family in Burlingame and lived there for 30 years, raising 2 boys. During this time Sharon tells me they took up tennis to such an extent that she took 3 years off nursing and owned and worked in a tennis shop! They now have 3 grandchildren, 2 girls and a boy.I asked about other activities now that they are essentially retired. She is currently taking golfing lessons and is fulfilling a life-long wish to learn the piano. She is currently taking piano lessons. to play for herself, now that she has a baby grand piano. Don joins her in playing the piano. I suggested they try the piano club’s 2 grand pianos!Sharon and Don are certainly a welcome addition to our tennis club!
