Our annual Tennis Mixer was held on Friday, July 15th and players are still shaking their heads over the format. Helen Varenkamp and Cheryl Diltz were chairpersons and they brought a fun, but very challenging element to the game. Imagine trying to hit a ball with 25% compression one time and then having to hit a ball with 75% compression another time and then there was the ball in between!!! Almost immediately the laughter started and the fun began. Some of our biggest servers had a hard time getting the ball over the net! Drop shots ruled the day!

The theme for this event was “Red, White and Blue – Just For Fun Tennis with a TWIST” and everyone dressed in a combination of red, white, and blue colors. After play, the participants gathered in the viewing stands and enjoyed a great dinner put on by Akiko Giordono and our man on the BBQ, Brian Dombrowski, who offered up some fantastic brats! Cooling towels were presented to many of the players in a prize drawing. Thanks to Kathy Dombrowski for help with decorations and our photographer, Nancy Spisar.

Phyllis Seeger’s 4.0 USTA team lost in a close playoff match against AVAC, losing in a 10-point tiebreaker. Congratulations on a great season! Phyllis is now captaining the 8.0 mixed team. Their next home match is Sunday, July 31 at 10:45 AM. Come down to the courts to see some spectacular tennis!

Coming up on August 14th is the annual Tennis Club Golf event. Watch your email for registration information or contact Kathleen Holt (holtk@suhsd.org/408-802-0159) or Bong Chang (bchang345@gmail.com/408-960-6007).
