Rossmoor Report

Rossmoor Report

Brrrrrr, holy moly it was cold at Rossmoor on Saturday, April 25 when the Villages Tennis Club played Rossmoor in their semi-annual tournament. This tradition started back in 1987, some 39 years ago.
In the spring, the Villages travels to Rossmoor and in the fall, Rossmoor travels here with lunch served after the tournament.  A trophy plaque is passed back and forth with the winning team holding and engraving the results of the match until the next tournament.  The plaque will proudly be displayed on our bulletin board at the viewing stand.

This year the match could not possibly be any closer.  First you add up sets.   The villages won 11 sets and Rossmoor won 11 sets.  Next you add up games and the Villages won by 2 games, so we have the plaque until Saturday, October 17 when Rossmoor travels here to the villages.

There are some nail-biting matches to mention.  Srini Sriniassan/Ken Leong played # 1 men’s doubles.  The first set was playing catch-up because Villages was down 3-5, but caught up to 6-6.  They do not play tie-breaks so each team received 1 point.  The second set was back and forth with long rallies which we finally  won 7-5.

#2 women’s doubles was another nail-biter.  Liz Kung and Carrie Yasukawa battled to a 6-6 tie for the first set and then won the second set 7-5 coming away with 2 sets to 1.  And this was the first time they had played together!

Congratulations Villages Tennis Club on fighting hard and coming home with a win.
