The Spring 2026 session of the Villages Tennis League (VTL) has concluded play.  The team captained by Peggy Seidel captured 1st place with a record of 4-3 narrowly edging out the 2nd place team.  The league was structured such that players were paired with and played against some that were not in their daily groups.  This resulted in new acquaintances and tennis partnerships.

Competition among the villagers was friendly but competitive.  Many matches went to the 3rd set tie-break.  The competitors gave it their all playing for their mixed doubles teams.  The warm to hot afternoon sun was brutal at times, but the players gave it their best under the difficult conditions.

While there were some outstanding matches, there were some individual players that really stood out.  Most notable was Shirley Mariani.  She was victorious in nearly all of her matches despite battling her opponents and the afternoon heat.  She managed to help guide her male tennis partners across the finish line.  While there is not a league MVP award, it was clearly evident Shirley would have hoisted the trophy.
