On Sunday, March 29, the Villages Tennis Club held their annual charity tournament called The Prescott. This charity tournament is for our very own VMA (Villages Medical Auxiliary.) It is called The Prescott in honor of Phil Prescott who was responsible for the building of Courts 5 and 6 back in 1998. Phil challenged the club to raise $30,000.00, a sum he would match to pay for building the 2 courts. This was done in a matter of weeks so we honor Phil every year by this tournament and donating the raised money to his favorite charity. This year the club doubled its donation to VMA in the amount of $1,810.00!
There were 32 players in the tournament split into 2 groups labeled White and Red. White Group winners: 1st-Brett Foreman, 2nd-Sukh Johal, 3rd-Paul Spisar. Red Group winners: 1st-Frank Hsu, 2nd-Dari Tarabini, 3rd– tie – Susan Cho and Rozalia Beica.
Players and fans were treated to delicious food before and after playing. Sonia Soin and her hospitality committee provided breakfast and finger licking BBQed hamburgers with all the trimmings plus a homemade salad and topped off with lemon pound cake.
Many thanks to Marty Funcell, Cheryl Diltz and Carrie Yasukawa for organizing and running The Prescott.
On Saturday, April 25, the club will be sending a team to Rossmoor for the semi-annual tournament, Villages vs Rossmoor. Click here to sign up before April 10th..
